These Terms of Service govern your use of houseofessia.in and any purchase you make from House of Essia. Please read them carefully. By accessing or using our website, or by placing an order with us, you agree to be bound by these terms.
If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use our website or place an order. We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Your continued use of the website after any change constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
1. About Us
House of Essia is a handpoured candle and home fragrance brand based in Bangalore, India. We sell our products through houseofessia.in (the “Site”). These terms apply to all visitors, customers, and anyone else who accesses or uses our Site.

2. Eligibility
By using our Site and placing an order, you confirm that:
• You are at least 18 years of age, or you are accessing the Site under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian
• You are legally capable of entering into a binding contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872
• You are a resident of India, or you understand that our products are sold and shipped within India only
• The information you provide us is accurate and complete
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason at any time, including if we suspect a user is under 18 or has provided false information.
3. Your Account
You may browse our Site without creating an account. However, creating an account allows you to track orders, save your address, and receive early access to new ritual drops.
If you create an account, you are responsible for:
• Keeping your login credentials confidential
• All activity that occurs under your account
• Notifying us immediately at hello@houseofessia.in if you suspect any unauthorised use of your account
We offer Sign in with Google as a login method. When you use this, Google shares only your email address and name with us. See our Privacy Policy for details.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if we have reason to believe your account has been used fraudulently or in violation of these terms.
4. Products and Pricing
Product descriptions
We take care to describe our products accurately, including scent notes, burn time, wax type, and weight. However, scent is subjective and your experience of a fragrance may differ from the description. We are unable to accept returns on the basis that a scent did not meet your personal expectation. We encourage you to read the full product description and scent notes before purchasing.
Pricing
All prices on our Site are listed in Indian Rupees (INR) and are inclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. Prices are subject to change at any time without prior notice. The price applicable to your order is the price shown at the time you place the order.
Availability
All products are subject to availability. We produce in small batches and stock may be limited. If a product you have ordered is out of stock after your order is placed, we will notify you promptly and offer either a full refund or an alternative.
Colour and appearance
Product images on our Site are as accurate as we can make them, but colours, textures, and wax surfaces may appear slightly different on your screen depending on your display settings. Handpoured candles may also show minor surface variations between batches — this is a natural characteristic of the process, not a defect.
5. Orders and Payments
Placing an order
When you place an order on houseofessia.in, you are making an offer to purchase the selected products at the listed price. We reserve the right to accept or decline any order for any reason, including but not limited to product unavailability, suspected fraud, or errors in pricing or product information.
You will receive an order confirmation email once your order is accepted. This confirmation does not constitute a contract until your payment has been processed and your order has been dispatched.
Payment
All payments are processed securely through Razorpay. We accept UPI, credit cards, debit cards, and net banking. All transactions are in Indian Rupees. We do not store your payment details — these are handled entirely by Razorpay in accordance with PCI-DSS standards.
We reserve the right to cancel an order if payment is not received or if a payment is reversed or charged back after fulfilment. In cases of suspected fraudulent transactions, we may request additional verification before processing your order.
Order cancellation by us
In rare cases, we may need to cancel your order after it has been accepted — for example, if a product becomes unavailable or if there is an error in the listed price. In such cases, we will notify you promptly and issue a full refund within 5–7 business days.
6. Shipping and Delivery
We ship pan-India. Orders are processed within 2 business days and delivered within 5–7 business days depending on your location. Shipping charges and free shipping thresholds are as described in our Shipping Policy.
Risk of loss and damage passes to you once your order is handed to our logistics partner. In the event of transit damage, please refer to our Refund and Returns Policy and raise a claim within 48 hours of delivery.
We are not responsible for delays caused by courier partners, natural events, strikes, or other circumstances outside our control. We will always do our best to keep you informed.
7. Refunds and Returns
Our refund and returns policy is set out in a separate document available on our Site. Please read it carefully before placing an order. In summary:
• We accept claims for damaged, defective, or incorrect items only
• Claims must be raised within 48 hours of delivery with photographic evidence
• Transit damage claims require an unboxing video
• We do not accept returns for change of mind or scent disappointment
• Candles that have been lit cannot be returned

8. Intellectual Property
All content on houseofessia.in — including but not limited to the House of Essia brand name, logo, product names (including ritual names such as First Rain on Stone, Filter & Fiction, Temple Bloom at Dusk, and Cubbon Morning), product descriptions, photography, copy, and design — is the intellectual property of House of Essia and is protected under applicable Indian and international intellectual property laws.
You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, display, or use any of our content for commercial purposes without our prior written consent. You may share our content on personal social media with appropriate credit, provided it is not used for commercial gain.

9. User Conduct
By using our Site, you agree not to:
• Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable Indian or international law

If you leave a product review on our Site, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual right to display and use that review in connection with our products and marketing, including on our website and social media channels.
You are responsible for the accuracy of any review you submit. Reviews must reflect your genuine experience with the product. We reserve the right to remove reviews that are false, offensive, or that violate these terms.
We do not permit the submission of fake, incentivised, or misleading reviews in accordance with the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020.

Our payment processing is handled by Razorpay. Your use of Razorpay’s payment services is subject to Razorpay’s own terms and conditions.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
Our Site and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the Site or its content, including but not limited to:
• That the Site will be available at all times or without interruption
• That the Site will be free from errors, viruses, or other harmful components
• That product descriptions are completely accurate, complete, or error-free
Nothing on our Site constitutes professional advice of any kind. Candles and fragrance products should be used responsibly and in accordance with the candle care guidance provided on each product page.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Indian law, House of Essia shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or in connection with your use of our Site or our products, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or personal injury.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these terms or your purchase shall not exceed the value of the order to which the claim relates.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless House of Essia and its owners, employees, and agents from any claim, damage, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of:

• Your breach of these Terms of Service
• Your violation of any applicable law or the rights of a third party
15. Candle Safety Notice
Our candles are handpoured with natural soy wax and are intended for responsible use by adults. By purchasing our candles, you acknowledge that:
• Candles must never be left burning unattended
• Candles must be kept away from children, pets, flammable materials, and drafts
• The glass vessel will become hot during burning — handle with care
• You have read and will follow the candle care instructions provided on the product page and included with your order
House of Essia is not liable for any damage, injury, or loss resulting from improper use of our candles.
16. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these terms or your use of the Site shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
